Carlo Actis Dato on tenor and bariton sax and on
bass clarinet and double bassist Giorgio Dini play
in
Out! in a duo rich of humor and wish to
comunicate with the audience. Actis Dato looks
very inspired, especially at the bass clarinet and when he
plays the tenor sax is seducted by the squits of the
typical free musicians. Together with Giorgio
Dini he avoids to research the typical sounds of the
british Avant-garde: the two musicians play a music which
is completely improvised but sometimes seems to be
extrapolated out of the recording of a hypotetic quartet
where the tracks of the second horn and of the drums have
been erased.
"Out?"
starts with a paraphrasis of "Law Years" by Ornette
Coleman, before getting into the improvisation. In
the rest of the recording the two avoid to play more or
less know themes giving life to a CD which is finally very
pleasant. We find here their wish to play and
succesfully explore new situations with the target
tocommunicate with the audience and this is enough to keep
the interest alive for all the lenght (approx 40 minutes)
of the recording, withhout empty or static moments.
To whom liked this record we wish to reccomend the
recent duo album by double bassist
Adam Lane with tenorist John Tchicai on CIMP.
